San Francisco Getaway

San Francisco, what a unique place. We took a nice long drive up Highway 1 to San Francisco last week. Fifteen hours to be exact. Highway 1 hugs the coast through much of California. It took us so long because this road is very windy and very high above the ocean. We were also delayed because of several construction zones that were in place to clean up after recent mud slides that took out part of the road. Although it took forever to get there we thoroughly enjoyed seeing the picturesque landscape of the mountains meeting the ocean and the huge Redwoods along the way. We hope you enjoy our pictures!
(If you click on a picture it will open a new window to see a larger view.)

About two hours into our journey we hit some LA traffic.

 The city of angels.

Bagger sat on our laps in the front seat the whole time!
 Pismo Bay
We found this giant rock at Morrow Bay. We sat in the car and had lunch with this unusual sight.
See the giant sail boat off in the distance?

 On the road.
 Elk!
Some of the beautiful scenery from Highway 1.

 Our big, little Bagger.

WELCOME TO SAN FRANCISCO!
 Historic cable cars
We stayed at the Powell Hotel right next to the cable car turnaround.
Our first and only ride on the cable car.
Fisherman's Warfe...they had some yummy crab cakes.
 Alcatraz!
Pier 39... so many nice shops.
 Close up of Alcatraz.

 Walking down Lombard Street
 Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill
Lombard Street! The crookedest street in the world.

Public spaceship like toilets in the city.
Our very first celebrity sighting... Jared and Brandy from Storage Wars!!!!
 Historic Street Cars
Beautiful Christmas tree in the square.
Chinatown

Golden Gate Bridge

Bagger loves to stick his head out the window.
We got to drive over the 1.7 mile long Golden Gate Bridge.

View of the city from the other side of the bridge.

Gorgeous park in the middle of San Francisco.

Little squirrel posing for a picture.
Calla Lillies in the pond at the park.
Painted Victorian style houses that are so unique to San Francisco.

These are the "painted ladies." This is the location where the intro for the show Full House was shot. Pretty cool to see!

At the landmark Lori's diner. Gary loved that we could play some Sinatra on our little jukebox.
The reason for our trip... Gary's lifelong dream of seeing a 49ers game at Candlestick Park. He was in heaven.

Unfortunately it rained almost the entire game. But we still had a great time.
Here they come!!!
Coin toss. We won the toss and deferred to the 2nd half.

We really enjoyed our trip to San Francisco. We will definitely go back if the opportunity presents itself again.
